Here's chance for us at New Day to practice creation care together in a lovely setting: On Saturday, April 30, we've been invited to bring a group of volunteers of all ages and abilities to the Light of Christ Community Garden.
If you haven't visited the garden, you at least have likely driven by it and seen the flowers, veggies or the 24-foot cross which is the centerpiece. What you might not know is that this garden was begun in 2011, is now 10,000 square feet, and today grows between 5,000 - 7,000 pounds of food annually for distribution to a variety of feeding programs and needy families in Federal Way.
What will we do? From 9 am to noon, we will help out with some garden upkeep like weeding, planting, mulching, raking and such. Afterwards, Jim and Donna Cox, the master gardeners, have invited us to bring our lunches and enjoy the lovely picnic area under the trees right next to the garden, and during lunch Jim and Donna said they would be happy to share with us about their vision for the garden and what they have learned about creation care and community building.
Please RSVP to Heather Forbes by text (253-886-3671) so she can give Jim and Donna an estimate of how many New Day-ers will be showing up to help.
